For years, international audiences were presented with a remarkably consistent visual picture of Gaza: impoverished, overcrowded and routinely described as an “open-air prison.”
There was, of course, genuine poverty and hardship in Gaza. But images such as these are a reminder that this was never the whole picture.
And the same people who tried to convince you of that Gaza narrative for so many years are the same ones now harking back to an idealized Gaza that apparently existed before Hamas launched a war against Israel.
