CTV Winnipeg corrects the error after referring to an Israeli immigrant couple assaulted in a knife attack as "refugees."

HR Prompts CTV Israeli “Refugee” Correction

A terrible incident involving an Israeli couple injured in a knife attack in Winnipeg, Canada was reported by CTV’s local outlet. The couple had immigrated to Canada only weeks before the attack. While they may have been seeking fresh pastures and prospects for their children, they certainly weren’t “refugees” as CTV described them.

HonestReporting pointed out in an email to CTV Winnipeg that no other news reports on the incident had described the Israeli couple as “refugees” and it was highly unlikely that an Israeli family would need to escape a fellow liberal democracy to come to Canada.

 


CTV agreed and a short time later corrected the error.
