Israeli security forces caught the two terrorists suspected of carrying out a deadly attack in Elad, four days after they went on a rampage in the city. The suspects, 19-year-old As’sad al-Rafai and 20-year-old Emad Subhi Abu Shqeir, both from Rumana in the Jenin area of the West Bank, were apprehended by police in a forested area in Israel.

The three victims killed in the deadly attack were identified as 44-year-old Yonatan Habakuk, a father of five; 40-year-old Boaz Gol, a father of five; and 35 year-old Oren Ben Yiftach a father of six.

They were all buried on Saturday with thousands in attendance.

Seven other people were injured in the attack, with one remaining in critical but stable condition and another in serious condition.

The attack in Elad marks the most recent of six deadly attacks since the end of March that have killed 18 Israelis.

Hamas has threatened to return to suicide bombings and to “burn” Israeli cities if Jerusalem resumes its policy of targeted killings of senior terror figures.

The terror group also issued a threat for an “unprecedented response” and a “regional earthquake” should Israel attempt to harm its top members, in particular Gaza leader Yahya Sinwar.

Some Israeli legislators and pundits have advocated targeting Sinwar amid the current terror wave. It is believed that the suspects behind the recent Elad attack may have been inspired by Sinwar.

On April 30, Sinwar urged Palestinians to strike Israelis with whatever they had: “Let everyone who has a rifle, ready it. And if you don’t have a rifle, ready your cleaver or an ax, or a knife.”

Hamas subsequently said the Elad attack was “a heroic operation”.

Increased security measures have reportedly been put in place at and around the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi. The steps were reportedly taken due to concerns over a possible attack on the site by Iranian emissaries in the country.

Iran International, a London-based publication aligned with the Iranian opposition, quoted one Israeli official as saying that Indian police and anti-terrorism forces had carried out maneuvers in the streets leading to the Israeli Embassy. Gunshots and explosions were also reported in the vicinity of the site. The streets surrounding the embassy have been outfitted with closed-circuit cameras and police are patrolling the area around the clock.

On Jan. 29, 2021, an explosive device was detonated next to the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi. Immediately after the explosion, Jerusalem pinned the attack on Iran, a claim that was later verified by Indian intelligence agencies.

A letter was found at the site of the explosion claiming the bomb had been detonated to avenge the deaths of Revolutionary Guards commander Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes, who were killed in a 2020 US drone strike, as well as the death of the head of the Iranian military nuclear program Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, who was assassinated in November 2020.

The US Senate passed a non-binding measure that opposes re-entering the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) because the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran does not address Tehran’s belligerent actions beyond its atomic program.

The Motion to Instruct (MTI) was sponsored by Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) and passed by a vote of 62-33, with the support of 16 Democrats joining their Republicans counterparts in what is being viewed as a repudiation of the Biden Administration’s reported concessions to Iran in its attempt to revive the nuclear accord.

Lankford’s MTI states that Congress would support the JCPOA only if it includes provisions to address Iran’s ballistic-missile program, support for terrorism and evasion of sanctions by individuals, entities and vessels in the trade of petroleum products with China.

The motion also calls for ecnomic sanctions to remain on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and does not revoke the IRGC’s designation as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, which the White House has reportedly considered doing.
