Biography
Gil Troy is Professor of History at McGill University and a cofounder of the Shalom Hartman’s Engaging Israel program in Jerusalem. An American presidential historian and a Zionist activist, he is the author of eight books, including the recently released Moynihan’s Moment: America’s Fight against Zionism as Racism — which was designated by Jewish Ideas Daily as one of the “best Jewish books” of 2012 — and the bestselling “Why I Am a Zionist: Israel, Jewish Identity and the Challenges of Today.” He has been widely published and quoted in the American and Canadian media and is extensively involved in the Jewish community, and the worldwide fight against the delegitimization of Israel.
Long involved in informal Jewish education, he is the Chairman of the Birthright Israel International Education Committee. A former chairman of the McGill History Department, he has repeatedly been designated by Maclean’s Magazine as one of McGill’s most “popular professors” and was singled out by the History News Network as one of its first, twelve, “top young historians.” His next book will look at how Bill Clinton impacted the 1990s.
