For the first time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appointed a Bedouin to represent Israel in an Arab country. Hassan Ka’bia will serve as consul general in Alexandria, Egypt. YNet News adds:
Deputy Foreign Minister MK Majalli Whbee (Kadima) prompted a revolution of sorts in the Israeli Foreign Service, as 30% of the participants in the Foreign Ministry’s prestigious cadets’ program are now members of the various minorities in Israel – Arabs, Druze, Bedouin and Circassian.
Ka’bia isn’t the first Bedouin to reach the highest echelons of Israel’s diplomatic corps. Ishmail Khaldi is Israel’s consul in San Francisco.
Will we ever see minorities from Arab countries getting similar opportunities? Don’t hold your breath.
