The next time you see an op-ed accusing Israel of being a ‘racist state’, remember this profile of Salim Joubran, appointed yesterday as a Supreme Court justice of the State of Israel:
Salim Joubran, 56, was born in Haifa to a Christian family. He graduated from the Law Faculty at the Hebrew University in 1968 and was licensed in 1970. After working in private practice from 1970 to 1982, specializing in civil matters, he was appointed to the Haifa Magistrate’s Court in 1982 and to Haifa District Court in 1993, where he came to specialize in criminal cases. He became the second Arab to receive a temporary appointment to the Supreme Court and the first to receive a permanent one.
