On Friday, we were alerted via Twitter to a particularly nasty piece of Palestinian propaganda masquerading as legitimate journalism on the Newsweek Middle East site.
See below to learn how you can take action.
Hi @HonestReporting. R you aware of this s**t? Issued anything to @Newsweek? Seems like the highlight of media bias.https://t.co/xPeyVndTUE
— Shlomi Ben Meir (@shlomikliab) September 9, 2016
We were also made aware that Newsweek ME’s Senior Deputy Editor Leila Hatoum was taking credit for an incredible piece of historical revisionism tweeting a video to anti-Israel hate site Electronic Intifada.
dear @intifada I do hope you like the video which @NewsweekME team has recently created. Share and let everyone know the facts 🙂
— Leila Hatoum (@Leila1H) September 6, 2016
The article in which the Newsweek ME-produced video appeared was written by Ben White, a well-known anti-Israel activist who has previously been given a platform by Newsweek to propagate his hate.
His latest article was taken apart by both Elder of Ziyon and Israellycool blogs.
Israellycool went further and exposed Leila Hatoum’s anti-Semitic tweets:
These are some of her tweets in response to Israel supporters who reacted to the video – count the antisemitic tropes.
A search of her previous tweets reveals she has revealed a hatred of Jews for a while now.

Newsweek Middle East is editorially independent from the main Newsweek title. Nonetheless it’s hard to believe that the publishers of Newsweek would be happy to see their brand name being dragged through the mud by the likes of Leila Hatoum and the anti-Israel propaganda being produced on the Newsweek Middle East site.
It’s a question we posed to Newsweek’s publishers Chief Executive Etienne Uzac and Editor-in-Chief Jim Impoco on Twitter.
@jimpoco @EtienneUzac Do u think it’s acceptable 2 have an anti-Semite tarnishing @Newsweek‘s brand name? https://t.co/G5KwaF8ikd

HonestReporting CEO Joe Hyams commented:
Newsweek Middle East has evidently been hijacked by agenda-driven journalism, none more so than Leila Hatoum who makes no effort to disguise her anti-Semitism and hatred of Israel. Newsweek should take immediate action to protect its name from being associated with such an embarrassment.
Clearly Hatoum and Newsweek ME have no shame. Newsweek, however, purports to be a credible news outlet. You can also ask if Newsweek is prepared to protect its brand from being sullied by anti-Israel propaganda and hate by signing our petition below and forwarding this article so your friends and family can also sign.

To: Etienne Uzac, Chief Executive & Jim Impoco, Editor-in-Chief, Newsweek Global,
Newsweek Middle East’s Senior Deputy Editor Leila Hatoum has displayed a consistent anti-Israel agenda that goes beyond bias, openly expressing hatred towards Israel and anti-Semitism on her Twitter feed.
Newsweek’s brand name is being tarnished by your Middle East subsidiary and we demand that Newsweek’s global operation publicly condemn such anti-Semitism and disassociates itself from the appalling actions of Newsweek Middle East and Leila Hatoum.
