It’s hard to believe, but HonestReporting is rapidly approaching its 25th anniversary. A quarter of a century since “The Photo That Started It All” — the famous incident from 2000 when a Jewish student from Chicago was misrepresented by The New York Times and other media as a Palestinian being viciously attacked by an Israeli border policeman. In reality, that policeman was rescuing the student from a Palestinian lynch mob that had beaten him within inches of his life.
The appalling media coverage was the catalyst for HonestReporting’s creation, and we’ve been fighting against the bias and lies ever since. We’ll be commemorating our anniversary at the end of September, reliving some of the “highlights” of the past 25 years. But we wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the support of the thousands of subscribers and readers who have accompanied us through countless seminal events in Israel and the Middle East and the resulting media storms.
That’s why we are asking you to send us your memories and reflections about HonestReporting and those media incidents that have stuck in your minds from the past quarter of a century. Some of you have been with us since the beginning, others more recent. Either way, from the Second Intifada, through various crises, military operations, October 7 and beyond, there’s plenty to remember.
So please scribble your thoughts and send them to us at [email protected]. We’ll publish a selection of comments on our website as part of our 25th anniversary commemorations, so stay tuned!
