The current state of affairs regarding Israeli politics is confusing enough without the media getting the technical details wrong. But that’s precisely what The Independent did in a September 25 story dealing with Benjamin Netanyahu being given the mandate by President Reuven Rivlin to attempt to form a coalition government. (So far, this has ended in failure.)
We spotted the following error:
Wrong @Independent @Beltrew. The president proposed LENGTHENING the period for which a prime minister could take leave without surrendering his job beyond the current 100-day limit. It's complicated enough without you getting the facts wrong. Pls correct. https://t.co/1q514pjQ7e pic.twitter.com/GxIW4H9ezY

Why this has taken over a month to correct is beyond us but we are glad that, following correspondence with The Independent, the text has finally been updated to reflect the facts: that the law could be amended to lengthen a 100-day limit on the prime minister’s leave of absence.
