YounggunsA Palestinian boy with a toy gun among a group of children throwing stones at IDF soldiers was shot and killed. According to Haaretz, the soldiers said they fired at a gunman, who then disappeared. The IDF is investigating the possibility that the gunman escaped while the youngster was hit.

Coverage of this unfortunate death needs to reflect the broader context of Palestinian children being used as cover for Palestinian militants, and their exposure to incitement to kill. I don’t see anything in the Haaretz article about a disappearing gunman. It says that the soldiers thought the toy gun was real, saw that it was being pointed at them, and shot before they got shot.

I love this expectation that Jews must wait and make sure the person is trying to kill them before they act. Puleeeze. I see a gun, I read enough to know what they are teaching their kids-I want to live-so I will shoot, end of discussion.
If you want to re open this debate-start teaching your kids that Jews are people too. Start teaching them to love life more than they hate Jews-then we can talk, until then, I will hold my piece, in a ready position with the safety off(credit Dennis Miller for this one)

I never said they shouldn’t have shot, I was simply pointing out that there was no mention of a disappearing gunman in the article. Nothing about any should do this or should do that, no judgement, just something in the writeup that is incorrect.
(BTW, this is the same person as the original post, just forgot to put a name before.)

I figured as much, I was not commenting on your post, so much as the overall perception that Jews in Israel, and all over, must be “sure” a threat exists BEFORE they act. Self preservation is not an option.
Anyone who spends a week in Israel knows that there is no way to determine who will kill us and who is just sitting there. We are not going to remain sitting ducks for the terrorists to pick off, because the world refuses to see our plight at the hands of murderers.
Is this an issue in Iraq? Are Americans supposed to wait until they know for sure before they defend themselves?
This is not an attack on you,Zy, really, it is continued frustration with this whole situation. Sorry for the rant, it was a bad day.

One more thing-our youngsters are targeted and blown up, shot to death at point blank range in car seats, where is the outrage? The silence is deafening!
