Obama has still not reconciled to be good leader he must be decisive. The military and not lawyers are in the best position to judge how to proceed. He agreed with them this time only because he is a politician who took advantage of an opportunity which served to boost his ratings. When he decided not to show the corpse he played both sides of the fence. He thought that Muslim’s would give him credit for disposing the body according to Muslim customs, and that Americans would think that he took the high road. Regrettably the message the terrorists received was that he was afraid of them because the word igot out that he feared a backlash. Hamas decoded that message to mean that they have his permission to carry on as usual. Why else would Obama celebrate their reconcilation with Fatah? The choice not to show the photographs or film footage of Osama’s elimination was a deliberate and calculated gamble meant to show Americans that he is dignified but Arabs will take this to mean that he doesn’t really have the stomach for this. Hopefully Americans will figure out that his skewed thinking, his hesitation and indecisiveness, is predicated on his need to look good, while at the same time he is still bowing and scraping to Muslims. .

Whether they do or not,it doesn’t make much difference to me. As long as I know that he’s out of this world and that’s it. Even if they did..it would be only a matter of time ..perhaps months or even years before they come to a decision.

If the photos are faked, that what indicate that bin Laden is still alive. And if he was still alive, he would announce it to the world which would defeat any gain that Obama would have from claiming he had eliminated him. So if the photos were faked, which is unlikely, you would have to take the unlikely position that Obama and Osama had collaborated in fabricating this whole story. I don’t know what either of them will gain so i think that it is unlikely that the photos are faked.

I’ve seen a photo of Osama’s bullet torn face. Now, where did the person who sent it to me obtain it?

I’m kinda enjoying the ambiguity. If he ain’t dead, then he can’t be a martyr. The bin Ladenites kidnap civilians and make snuff films of their beheading which they post on the internet. We don’t. No matter how villainous he may have been, once dispatched the corpse is treated in accordance with the principles of B’tselem Elohim. This leaves the bin Ladenites only able to whine about “improper form”. Only one ritual wash not three – waaaa. Only one wrapper, not three – waaaa. Didn’t tie the knots correctly – waaaa. Made into fish food, not buried on land with his head pointing towards Mecca – waaaa

I believe Obama was right for not letting the photo’s out to prevent them to be used as trophies. However, he has an obligation to allow Osama’s victims the right to see them in private without the ability to record or duplicate.

I do not agree with MR. Obama about this or anything else I can think of. I think he is the worst president in our history. I think he is a brilliant con man who doesn’t care about the US or its citizens.

I sincerely hope he is not re-elected.

I’ve heard several times the argument that we saw pictures of 9/11, we saw pictures of saddam’s execution, we saw pictures of this act of terrorism, of that act of terrorism…there must be something “else” going on in the BHO Whitehouse if we aren’t allowed to see pictures of OBL.

Here’s the flaw in that logic: when pictures are in the public domain, *of course* we’re going to be able to see pictures. However, the killing of OBL was conducted on a closed, secure military mission. Unlike any of the venues that generated various gruesome images, no local TV crew was able to just set up shop and start filming. Therefore, we can only see pictures if they are released. If you want to argue precedence, offer up a case in which precedence is demonstrable.

I have no problem with holding back the photos. Actually, I couldn’t care less one way or the other. Bravo to the units that went in and finally succeeded in this type of mission. (Compare, for example, with the tragic (ludicrous, if it weren’t so costly in terms of lives of American servicemen) effort to extract the 52 Americans held hostage in Iran.) I have no need to vet the operation. That falls into the realm of the executive branch.

If you’re a hater (full disclosure: I was a hater during the B*sh administration), nothing will satisfy your need to ascribe incompetence, dishonesty, and devious, treasonous actions to BHO and his administration. Pictures get photoshopped. Fight scenes can be manufactured and manipulated. To the haters, OBL was either on ice for years until BHO decided (for whatever reason) to “produce the body,” so to speak, at this moment; or, he’s still out there somewhere (perhaps renditioned to Saudi Arabia being tortured (if only! the haters will say) to extract information), who knows where. But what the haters can’t do is explain what BHO gains by perpetrating a fraud. It’s way too early to have any impact on next year’s election cycle.

That’s my short take on the question – I don’t care one way or the other.

Please pardon the comparison, though perhaps the decision to publicize the photos of a dead Osama Bin Laden should be the purview of his surviving family, akin to the way the Fogel and Ben Yishai families approved the publication/distribution of the photos of their murdered relatives.

However, if such a decision is the sole purview of the Obama administration, then what would be the harm in making them available strictly for viewing on some federal gov’t website? It would slake the curiosity of those who want/need to see them. The wishes of those who don’t want to see them would be honored.

The decision not to publish the photos had more to do with fear of Islamic terrorist reprisal than with offending the sensibilities of US citizens, because our media has shown us horrific images over the years, from the autopsied body of Pres. Kennedy to the Islamist decapitation of journalist Daniel Pearl.

Usually such pictures are released only to sensationalize the news -I would have said to that “NO” But this evil man- the world needs to know with proof -just like the pictures of the “death camps” in Germany and Poland need to be seen. Without the pictures- the future will try to deny the past.

We are a goverment of the people, by the people and for the people. Obama works for us, it should be our right to the photo not his, it was obtained using our funds, not his, and our men, not his.

To publish the photographs would have violated a long standing, well considered military policy (in compliance with the Geneva Convention) regarding the treatment of prisoners captured by the military and casualties of military action. A applaud President Obama and his administration for returning our country to lawful conduct respectful of others—even vicious terrorists whom some feel do not deserve treatment as humans.

Personally, I feel that—for antiterrorism effectiveness reasons—there should have been no announcement until the captured materials lost their value as tools in future antiterrorist activities.

I agree with all the comments. The world, especially the Moslem world needs to see his “death” photo which could be doctored, like they did with the Fogel family pictures, which you could not see correctly. The world needs to know that this monster is dead and see the pictures of proof. They (the terrorists) do not care about our sensibilities when committing horrendous, unspeakable acts, and show us proof of it in their newspapers, television shows etc, why should we? Showing respect only gives them the picture of weakness, being afraid of hurting their “sensibilities. A terrorist, radical Moslem understands and respects the power of force and strength. MalkieB

To begin – I disagree with your question. The decision regarding the photo was NOT made by the “government” but was a unilateral decision made by the President.
Those of us who believe that UBL was killed don’t need photographic proof. Those that don’t trust the US (a large segment of the Islamic world) will claim that the photo is a fake anyway, The proof will be that we won’t be hearing from him again.

I guess if they don’t show the pictures I can still hope that the CIA has him alive and is water boarding the living day lights out of him for intel. Assuming he actually did get shot in the head I think the photo should be released. A picture is worth a thousand words and all the would be terrorists of this world would no doubt get to see that photo if it was released. My guess is that more than a few would be recruits will have second thoughts about terrorism as a career after seeing such a less than glorious ending for their top dog. As for the burial, we went over board (no pun intended) to make the Muslim world happy. And exactly why would the Muslim world be concerned about giving him a proper burial if they disliked him as much as the liberals here in the US claim most Muslims disliked him? Would you for example care if Bernie Madoff got a proper burial?

I think they should prove that binladen did not go to heaven according to islam. I think it was wrong to honor him with an islamic burial procedure. He had to be buried like an infidel acording to islam……that would have big influence on other terrorists….to think that they would not go to heaven if captured.

Again, the left is making decisions for me. Sure, victims photos in homicide are restrained,
But, photos of executions are often published for reasons of closure. I personally don’t trust
the present government to tell me the truth and I would like to decide for myself if I want to see the pictures of OBL in his end. I’m certainly not perversly attracted to gore but on the other hand I have no sensitivity for a moslem. Islam is not a religion and needs not to be treated as such. The racist, imperialistic, fashistic, supremistic quality of Islam disqualifies it from any form of religious shelter. I want to be certain that the bastard is dead.

At last Osama was “handed” a swift sentence. We should be proud of our achievment and not try to water it down by foul excuses. Show the pictures of the dead Osama. He subjected us to seeing the inciniration of 3000 innocent Americans. We need the the picture so that we can start our healing process. Give our SEALS the full credit and show off Osama departing this world to join his 72 virgins.

I think there is too much at stake for Obama to lie.
I do think that we really don’t need to see the pictures.
Nor do we need a burial site to give another martyr site to
compete with the supposed site in mecca.
