Invading Israel
November 21, 2003 11:45 by ManagingTeamGerald Kaufman at the Spectator (UK) has an outrageous screed suggesting (half-seriously?) that the US should invade Israel, now that it’s done with Iraq.
This is the villification campaign, in a thousand words or less.

This is nothing new. US Senators and Congressmen, Colin Powell, the French Foreign Minister, and many others have been putting forward the same proposals (in dead seriousness) for years. Of course, they don’t call it “invasion”, they use the term that was used in Yugoslavia—”Intervention forces”, but the meaning is the same.
When asked about the possibility of a US led intervention force if Israel did not comply with the dictates of the “Quartet”, Colin Powell replied; “All options are on the table” (Original Madrid-Quartet Conference)—this threat (or is it as the Arabs read it, a “promise”?)has been repeated hundreds of times since. Sen.John Warner, Orrin Hatch, and others revive the “intervention” idea on a regular basis——-”for the good of the region” of course!
