Everything you need to know about today’s media coverage of Israel and the Mideast.
60 Minutes returns to Israel. PA press freedom takes a strange turn. Any truth to rumors of an Israeli military presence in Cyprus?

Israel and the Palestinians
• Bob Simon of 60 Minutes returns to Israel to profile Tel Aviv (video or transcript). Is this an attempt to atone Simon’s recent Unholy Attack On Israel? This time around, Simon touches on the city’s cosmopolitan reputation, party scene, gay tolerance, high-tech start-ups, and, of course, “the Tel Aviv bubble.”
• Now that products from the West Bank face a South African labeling law and a similar initiative is gaining traction in Denmark, Palestinians are testing the waters for a similar effort in Canada. The Co-op, one of Britain’s largest food chains, announced its own boycott of settlement products.

Avi Boaz
• The Irish Times catches up with Jihad Jaara, a fugitive from the Church of the Nativity siege. Jaara arrived in Ireland ten years ago this week as part of the internationally brokered exile which ended the standoff. I’m glad to see the Times didn’t overlook this big skeleton in Jaara’s closet:
Jaara’s case is further complicated by the fact US investigators allege he is implicated in the murder of Avi Boaz, a septuagenarian US-born émigré to Israel who was killed near Bethlehem in January 2002. A former Newsweek journalist who wrote a book about the Church of the Nativity siege alleges Jaara told him in an interview that he had been involved. Jaara has since denied this.
The former Newsweek journalist is Josh Hammer, who elaborated on the Jaara file in the NY Times Magazine a few years ago.
• To strengthen Palestinian press freedom, “special judges” will be appointed in cases dealing with journalists. I have a better idea for strengthening press freedom in the PA. Stop arresting journalists, bloggers and Facebook activists. More on this at Maan News. Meanwhile, the PA released blogger Jamal Abu Rihan after 36 days. According to the Jerusalem Post:
He was detained on instructions from the PA attorney-general, Ahmed al-Mughni, after creating a Facebook group called “The people want to end corruption.” . . .
“Most of the questions centered around my activity with the Facebook group,” Abu Rihan told the London-based Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper.
“This confirms that I was arrested only because of my being a blogger.”
• Hamas’s conundrum: How do you block an Israeli-made film about the assassination of Mahmoud Mabhouh without going through the Israeli justice system you don’t recognize? This from AP:
The movie, which features Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli as a temptress working for the hit team, is a “Zionist conspiracy” to defame al-Mabhouh, said a cousin, Ahmed, who lives in Gaza. Details of the suit, including where to file it, are still being worked out, he said.
• AP: “Palestinian rivals set timetable for unity deal.” Yogi Berra: “It’s like deja-vu, all over again.” ‘Nuff said.

The fact is, Canada, my country, is 100% IN SUPPORT OF ISREAL. The stinking LEFT ganged up on him not long ago with intention to oust his minority government but their little plan failed miserably. Not only did we Canadians re-elect Mr Harper, but we gave him a majority government. That should give ppl a sense of how MOST Canadians feel.
Canada will stand by Israel; we may not be a big country nor a strong one but we are loyal to our friends.
I shudder at the thought of a non stop file of islamists immigrating here, and it would break my heart to see us go the way that Europe has and the way the USA is rapidly going under the helm of their organ grinder monkey.
PS I go out of my way to buy Israeli made products. We do have the boycott twats in Canada and even some here in Alberta HOWEVER, they are usually kicked to the curb by the BUYcotters. I spoke with one company about this and the manager said she laughs whenever the boycotters announce their intentions. She told me they have a hell of a time keeping enough stock of the Israeli made stuff in the store cuz it gets bought so fast. Truth is Israeli made products are just really good quality and stand on their own. Even if I was not so pro Israel it only makes good sense to buy Israeli stuff.
BTW, the wines coming out of Israel now are extremely good quality and are winning international awards hand over fist. Ya, I like my wine
The only trouble with Israeli wine is that there is not enough of it to go around. I can get 4 different wines from Israel where I live, I like them all but you have to shop fast or you lose out and have to wait for the next shipment. I had a Shiraz Cab from Galil Mountain last night …. so smooth!

Excuse me but how exactly does that make me a racist?
B4 accusing somebody you have never met of such a despicable thing it would be nice to get to know me first.
While I did insult the choke, cough, sputter ….. “president” of America, THAT in itself is not racism.

It’s an otherwise laughable indictment of “intellectuals” whose real poverty of thought and education becomes immediately apparent when they are so ready to boycott “West Bank” goods. Arab employees lose their jobs and their families suffer: an unintended consequence.
I imagine that these boycotters are unaware of the fact that from 1948-67, 850,000 Jews from Arab countries were displaced and their assets expropriated. I guess the boycott should also be extended to the Muslim countries from Morocco to Pakistan who sought revenge when their armies failed to beat the Jews in 1948. As usual, the Arabs too foolishly suffer from unintended consequences because now Israel’s refugees from Moslem lands constitute more than half its Jewish population! Of course, British anti-Semitism has persisted since 1190 and pervades British literature and its gentility. Britain’s Mandate in Palestine and its British trained Jordanian army were both disasters. British hurt pride the real reason for boycott?

Ya, I have huge laugh when I see vids of the pathetic impotent leftist boycotters in Britain, boycotting dates from the Shomron and Judea. OR when the dense muslims in the UK are pleading with their “brethren” to not buy “west bank” (I gag on that term) products.
As if it is only the Jewish farmers that grow this products or that no muslims are ever hired to work on Jewish farms. Those leftists remain perpetual losers … LOL. They always shoot themselves in the foot; do they not realize this??!! If not for the Jews there would NOT BE anything to export from that region; before them it was laid waste by islam and the land did not produce anything but dust.

Boycotts, bias, anti-semitim… these always worked in favor of the
Jewish community. Israel gas become an indusrial & economic powerhouse; a technological leader.
Those who curse Israel
have their curses turn to
blessings; but their hate blinds them from seeing and understanding what they do.

“Now that products from the West Bank face a South African labeling law and a similar initiative is gaining traction in Denmark, Palestinians are testing the waters for a similar effort in Canada. The Co-op, one of Britain’s largest food chains, announced its own boycott of settlement products.” Well, it’s always OK for the nonstate tribal arabs to “cut their own noses off to spite their own faces!!
Someone “blogged” that the Israeli companies/corporations in communities in Judea and Samaria just label their products as originating from “Judea and Samaria”. That would put any products being exported these arabs claiming squatters rights into the box of either coming from “Judea and Samaria” OR “the Westbank”. Then we’ll watch who buys what!
When will people learn they cannot out-wit the G-d of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob?

I saw much of the sixty minutes report. I could find out as much by visiting many American cities. But what is the point? That Israel, a partly spiritual, and partly secular nation, is similar to the rest of the world, and is not behind them in the latest fads, and the newest philosophies? OK. And this is a surprise somehow? What makes Israel special is the call of God on her. The call and purpose of God that brought her people back together in the physical land which God gave them centuries ago. Has all this had some influence on Tel Aviv. Undoubtedly. But Sixty minutes is a journalistic and financial venture, and wishes to prove themselves, and remain constant with whatever is accepted, and is in their perception of the world’s view. God sees the greater picture. Politics are a game, a reality only to be used or maneuvered by Him as necessary, for the sake of Israel, and for the sake of all the other nations. Israel is central to the world. God chose them as His voice, and the bringers of the Messiah, who is the savior to not only Israel, but to the rest of the world as well. God favors Israel, and gives them wisdom, because of the fathers, who died believing in God’s promises, that he would redeem and protect his people, and make them special in the earth, as the bringers of his word, through the law and the prophets, and through the messiah, who would come forth from her. And He still has His hand on His people Israel. to make them a peculiar and righteous praise to Him among the nations, and to let them know that he loves them, and still cares for them, and watches over them. All subjective journalism aside, God chose Israel for a purpose, and this purpose is what they fail to see.

Simon’s guilty follow up about TA helped me, at long last, to see some merit in religious fanatics’ views on women but with a difference. From women’s earliest years, we encourage their winning ways which they cultivate competitively until nature no longer supports their charms. As men, we give much of our lives to ogling and desiring them. Most of the products we are won by, are invariably adorned with tempting reminders of feminine desirability. What a cruel waste of their early lives! And what an irreconcilable loss and emptiness must follow. And how we as men are conditioned to the reflex of ogling and desiring!
To assign women to slavery is no answer, but haven’t we made them into slavish tools of lust?
How wretched it must be to be virtually ignored when once you saw desire in all men’s eyes!
How regrettable to be ill equipped for a life that might carry on for another fifty years with little mind, skills, or character! I have no answers, but neither the hedonists nor the religious seem to offer a healthy compromise.

The boycotters do not care about the Arab workers in the West Bank. The majority hate jews and the others are ignorant idiots.

Of the original estimated 700,000 “Palestinian refugees” only 30,000 are still alive;of the original estimated 850,000 Jewish refugees from Muslim lands, an estimated 50,000 are still alive. But the Muslims say that there are now more than 5,000,000 Palestinian refugees. They claim to have invented mathematics. They seem to have been inventing lots of other things.
