“Threats From the North: The Rise of Terrorism”

 

  • Overview of the Ayun Valley with discussion of the development and failure of the Lebanese state, PLO intervention, Israeli involvement, and the rise of Hezbollah.
  • Travel to the border fence for discussion of immediate security issues.
  • Picnic lunch (optional lunch included).
  • Analysis of the previous Lebanon war: what went right; what went wrong; learning from the past.
  • Discussion of ideological and security issues including Khomeinism, Iran and Hezbollah; the clash between Sunni and Shiite Islam, and ideologically motivated terrorism.
