Octavia Nasr: I Regret the Fadlallah Tweet

July 7, 2010 17:34 by

Octavia_nasr CNN's Octavia Nasr regrets her recent tweet about the death of Hezbollah's Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Nasrallah:

Reaction to my tweet was immediate, overwhelming and a provides a good lesson on why 140 characters should not be used to comment on controversial or sensitive issues, especially those dealing with the Middle East.

It was an error of judgment for me to write such a simplistic comment and I'm sorry because it conveyed that I supported Fadlallah's life's work. That's not the case at all . . . .

Revered across borders yet designated a terrorist. Not the kind of life to be commenting about in a brief tweet. It's something I deeply regret.

The regret sounds sincere and I'm glad she was held accountable.

And this is a writer/reporter who was dumb enough to not recognize it?

The only thing that sounds sincere is that she was caught.

I am a Jewish supporter of Honest reporting and Israel and know Octavia Nasr. I think it is a great shame and saddens me that she has been fired over this short comment on twitter given her stated explanation which I believe entirely. While CNN may not want those in editorial positions to share any personal thoughts on the subjects they cover, I believe she is the wrong person for honest reporting to have focused on.

CNN has become so pro Israel that they no longer have fair journalism. A twenty year career dismissed for one sentence that completely lacks any justification for termination. Octavia Nasr has always been fair and honest. Shame on CNN for being controlled by “Media Backspin” the organization supporting honestreporting.com where every word spoken by a middle eastern nonIsraeli reporter is scrutinized and miscontrued to their advantage in order to shut the mouths of the real honest reporters. Doesn’t anyone wonder how reporters can slander and degrade their own United States President and get promoted but a hint of affection for a dead man who was once affiliated with Hezbollah can get you fired????? CNN is pathetically controlled.
