Food for thought: Falafel, those deep-fried chick peas served up with pita, tehina, and veggies at restaurants across the Mideast is not an Israeli creation.

So why is The Guardian‘s Harriet Sherwood starting a food fight when McDonalds in Israel decided to drop “McFalafel” from its menu?

Falafel is thought to have originated in Egypt, although Israel now claims it as a national dish.

We’ve already had a silly dispute with Lebanon over the origins of hummus. Why pour extra hot sauce on an otherwise bland filler story? Can’t we just give peas a chance?
