UK Riots: Iranian Photo Fraud Exposed
August 16, 2011 15:39 by Simon Plosker
The laughable propaganda coming out of the Iranian regime aimed at the British authorities’ handling of recent riots has descended to even more embarrassing levels.
Not content with publicly criticizing UK police “brutality” and “human rights abuses”, Iran has published photos of the riots to illustrate their point.
Or have they?
The Guardian reports:
Iranian media affiliated to the Islamic regime have been accused of using library images from different times and locations in Britain and other parts of the world to portray the UK riots as “the uprising of the oppressed against the British monarchy“.
Soon after the rioting broke out, the Iranian regime seized on the unrest to get back at the British government by condemning what it described as “the violent suppression of the political opposition and the oppressed”.
But in recent days Iran‘s online community and blogosphere have shown that pictures published in the regime’s news agencies and daily newspapers were taken at different times and places.
Most were published by the semi-official Fars news agency, whose paymasters are the elite revolutionary guards, and Keyhan newspaper, which is under the direct control of the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Pictures provided by Fars are widely used in other media groups across Iran.
An Iranian who blogs under the name Gomnamian has devoted significant time to demonstrating where some of the pictures used by Fars were published beforehand. Fars deleted some pictures once word spread across the web.
Among the pictures is a one of a man whose face is covered in blood, which the Daily Mail had published in September 2010 alongside a story about security plans ahead of a football match between Manchester United and Rangers.
Another photo used by Fars was taken from a 2009 London protest in support of the Palestinians.
One appeared to be from Chile, and featured a road sign in Spanish.
One image showed a street full of police but was actually taken at the Notting Hill carnival in 2008.
A picture showing police on horseback was from the miners’ strike in 1984.
Perhaps we could laugh off these rather pathetic efforts by the Iranian regime and its media at anti-British propaganda. Except that Iran is a brutal, terror-sponsoring state seeking nuclear weapons capability and represents a threat not only to Israel but the entire civilized world.
Isn’t it time that the UK finally shut downs Press TV and prevents Iranian propaganda reaching British television screens?

With the lack of truth emanating from the semi-official Iranian new agency, a puppet of the Iranian “revolutionary guard”, I believe the western press should begin referencing anti-Western “made up propaganda released by this group as having been “released by and as a FARCE publication”, rather than FARS. This will put the content in context. Their religio-politics requires them to lie to gain advantage when deceiving those who are different from their kind.

Look who is calling the kettle black!A British minister has told the Iranians that he is willing for Iran to investigate the riots on a condition that he can reciprocate. No answer from Iran!

The UK is getting a taste of its own medicine. Their newspapers are expert at publishing “photo shopped” images without checking their authenticity.

so, brits and england…
how does it feel when you are put on the front newspapers with articles and photos that are fake and that deligitimizes you, calls you brutal and calls you a human rights criminal???
it doesn’t feel good! you are all in a huff about it, aren’t you? you all scream this is a lie!
well, what do you know, brits! you have been doing it to israel and the jews; spreading lies about israel and the idf, spreading vicious untruths about that country, boycotting it, lying and twisting the actual truth via images and stories that are fictional to the extreme.
now, you have a taste of your own medicine and it feels bad, doesn’t it?

Well speaking as a Brit I am ashamed to say that this is a taste of our own medicine and it tastes bitter indeed. I am sorry for the way that my nation portrays Israel with false accusations, exaggerations , doctored pictures, twisted lies and Anti Semitic propaganda. This nation deserves what it gets for betraying Israel and the people of Israel and turning back on promises made long ago. These photo shopped pictures and lies told about recent events in Britain are nothing compared with the lies told about Israel by our press. We should hang our heads in shame but still we stomp on the blue and white flag of Israel. G*D have mercy on us!

But Vivienne, the difference is this. That which the British press (especially the Guadian and the Independent, and of course the BBC) publishes with regard to Israel is all true because, uh, because they said it was true. British newspapers reporting about Israel are always trustworthy and unbiased. Except for the dozen or so doctored photos and the accusations made against Israel without attribution, the British press almost always (or at least sometimes) gets it right. And when they get it wrong, they almost always publish a retraction within 2 weeks of the discovery, somewhere in the paper. Yeah you can complain that some of the writers are members of anti-Israel hate groups but that does not prove that they aren’t 100% unbiased. If it’s in the British paper, I stand by my right to say that it must be true. So there!
Hot debate. What do you think?

Roy, your comment is doubtless well meaning, but it shows a remarkable naivete about ther British press. If we take only the Independent, the Guardian and the BBC alone, the bias against Israel is flamboyant and hard to stomach. The Guardian in particular not only runs any story, true or false, that denigrates Israel and also publishes articles by terrorists who seek to destroy Israel. Comment is Free is bursting with vicious, spiteful, and inaccurate anti-Israel content. The picture you paint is far too mild in all respects. It shows up in other ways too, like the Channel 4 series earlier this year, The Promise, which was maliciously anti-Jewish and pro-Arab, but which no-one would apologize for or even admit was anti-Semitic.

Dear Roy, A retraction after two weeks is useless. The damage has already been done. The majority of people will not read retractions or apologies. The press knows that perfectly and uses the system to tarnish Israel image as much as possible. The BBC is the master, followed closely by the Guardian and the Independent. Palestinians have been very good students and don’t mind saying any lie..
So there… That’s British hypocrisy for you.
By the way, I am British myself
PS. But it seems to me that that there is a sense that things are changing, thanks to the internet and blogs like this one. We the people can search for the truth now, we don’t have to rely on the press or TV.

As Obama’s Minister of Hate, the “Rev” Jeremiah Wright, is wont to say, “The chickens are coming home to roost,” UK. Maybe there should be a BDS movement to protest the ‘brutal repression’ of Britain’s protesters? Ban all British academics? Boycott British products? FARS sounds like Iran’s homegrown version of The Guardian.
Will experiencing the same sort of journalistic malpractice Israel suffers every single day enlighten the British public? Will they now recognise the lies about Israel perpetrated by their own press, using the very same techniques of disinformation?

In this last week, Press TV was reporting riots in Israel….they said 10,000 people were rioting …I think against the cost of living in Israel…
They didn’t say where as far as I know, or when.

suzette,
There were protests but NO rioting.
Some 300000 on one night in Tel Aviv.
And that is with the Arab communist group Balaad and the New Israel Fund (financed by Soros’ JStreet connections) climbing in trying to heat up the summer.

Why should I care about the nonsense written about the British. After all the “junk” written in England about Israel…they deserve some of the same stuff themselves. English newspapers twist the facts better than anyone. I hope they enjoy it.

Why the Brits and for that matter most of Europe continues their institutionalized anti-Semitism, always willing to believe Jews and Israel are the devil incarnate is beyond me. Most of the western world has taken to heart our 10 commandments as their basis of civilization and the book of Leviticus as the basis of law, but then you demonize Jews and their homeland, taking the side of terrorist propagandists and denying the actual logic and all rational thought. The beloved Palestinians that Europe has adopted and financed, including their jihad and lies of FARCE, which others spell FARS, are now turned against the British media on top of the current scandal within the press. When will the British citizens start to speak out against their doing business as usual with their sworn enemies in the Middle East. Have you forgotten these were Hitler’s allies in WWII?
Their memories go back a long way, they’re still fighting the Crusades and you, as Westerners and Infidels are their enemy. Their destiny is to destroy you or convert you, according to their holy book, that hateful narrative written by the guy they call a prophet who is the only prophet who never prophesied. Wake up, open your eyes.

I often think about the British policy in the 1940s to shift the demographics of Palestine by barring the entry of Jews, while issuing a residence card to every visiting Arab. It seems that a Divine hand is flooding the U.K. with more Muslims than they can bear, a belated tit-for-tat that Anthony Eden could not have foreseen.

I Feel sad that The Power once known as the kingdom of Great Briton which stood for what was right for all the best reasons and” Land of hope and Glory” is just called England today stripped of its greatness. I admired the Nation when i was a child, but you sold out to the rich Arabs, have bought in Nations of peoples which is okay, but people need to assimilate into society not build there own areas and have there own turf, thats where all the racial problems come from when to many of one group of people stay together in there own little ghettos and feel threatened when others come in. This is England today the we and us peoples of the nation you have created your own Demon. It is also true on the comments about Israel that there is a bias toward Israel it is obvious to the outsider and a shame on The Reporting system of your once great Nation that stood for Honesty and truth. How it is possible that facts are not in the equasion of todays news reporting Fantasy, lies, distortions, seem to be acceptable, but truth is truth and you bring on your own head when these things are allowed. Clean up your act and i would also say if you believe in God, Queen and Country, God sees all, Knows all, and is not mocked. You will not get away with it without suffering the consquences. Gaile

Dear Suzette,
There are no riots in Israel, but the Left has pitched tent cities to protest the housing shortage and, primarily, in the hope of toppling Netanyahu. They were the the first to applaud Obama’s insistence on a ten-month freeze on Israeli construction as the P.A.’s price for resuming negotiations with Israel. Israel agreed, but Abbas never deigned to honor his part of the bargain. Now Abbas is demanding a second Israeli construction freeze, but Netanyahu refuses to be fooled a second time. The Israeli Left are complaining about a situation that they enthusiastically helped to create.

The Saintly fallen soldiers of all of Great Britain’s previous “Diplomacy by other means” must be looking down on the new British realities of the 21st century and wondering if there is a bizarre drug in the food, water and air to so confuse and alter the accuracy of the reportage and direction of it all. Does it not seem that we’re approaching closer to a long term or permanent ‘Black Hole of Calcutta’ for all things Brit? Wake up! TTFN

Can’t say that I’m surprised or upset after the FauxtoJournalism used against the Israelis this century especially by the Guardian and BBC set the standard.
The world of journalism has become one of hypocrisy and lies and the poorly educated masses have no way of knowing that they are being sold a pig in a poke.

I think there’s another point which no one has raised in either this article, or in any of the comments: Two years ago, after the Iranian government stole the “free” elections that should have ousted their distracting hand-puppet, Ahmadinejad, thousands of protestors took to the streets. Iran’s response was to gun down relatively non-violent protestors. Last week, British protestors engaged in extremely violent smash-and-dash rioting, and all the police did was take people into custody–without gunning anyone down.
Must be something in the water.
