How many people know that Israel is about the size of the state of New Jersey? Not many. One way we can help Israel is by monitoring maps in newspapers and on the television that show the area. If Israel is displayed, be sure that it is labeled. The NY Times ran maps of the region and didn’t bother labeling Israel. After several emails, letters and phone calls they finally did, and then stopped running the maps altogether. Another way to help is to ask people if they know how big Israel is in comparison to the surrounding Arab countries. I’ve gotten responses like “ How big – oh I don’t know – Texas?” They have no idea. Since Israel is the only Jewish state in the entire world I think it is pretty important to do what we can to keep it alive. If it were in existence during World War II my family could have escaped there instead of being murdered in Hitler’s gas chambers.

“What can Israel’s supporters do to help promote Israel’s position to the international public?”
Nothing. Anti-Semitism has been with us for 2,000+ years. What makes you think it’s going to go away, now?
Hot debate. What do you think?

Promote tourism, if you make it a holiday destination and there are many people who flock there that will only prove to cement Israel’s position in the Middle East. Making travel more convenient and cheaper than visiting other neighbouring Arab countries would be a start. When a person visits Israel and they get to know the place and the people, a bond is made. Any attacks on a holiday destination only makes the terrorists look worse and doesn’t do a bit of good towards their image and their motives.
Saudi Arabia has tried to cement its position as a center of business in the region and rightly so with the lack of sustainability in oil mining.

I’m afraid I have to agree with Yitzhak. Nothing, we say to rationally explain Israel’s size, position, etc. will satisfy those against Israel. We live in a highly polarized world where centrism is a lost ideal. Most Americans and Canadians, (I’m Canadian,) do not realize we are already at war, here, in our own countries. There are only two sides; good and evil. Choose your side. I stand with the good. I stand with Israel.

@Irina – no offence intended, I assure you, but your position is hopelessly naïve. There has been ‘education’ for 2,000 years now. The falsity of every single blood libel ever raised against the Jewish people has been conclusively shown. It’s not like only a small ‘élite’ have access to the truth. Yet despite this, Israel is hated under the guise of ‘anti-Zionism’ and used as a ‘lightning rod’ to disguise the truth behind the façade: Jew-hatred. They hate us. They have always hated us. They always will hate us. There is nothing that we can do that will change that. Pretending that if only we could make these poor, deluded souls see the truth, they’d suddenly come around and become friends of the Jews is hopeless – and dangerous – naïveté. What we need to do is to make Israel so strong, so overwhelmingly strong, that our enemies are left in no doubt that any attack on us will result in their immediate and complete annihilation. It is time that fear changed sides (with thanks to Mr Lieberman).

The Fatah leadership, more precisely Abbas wants UN recognition of … what? Recognition of a state with – now “pre-1967″, de facto though INFLATABLE borders (cf. present absolute Muslim UN majority and Muhammad teachings about not necessarily binding contracts with infidels) – is worth as much as its recognition of the state of Alice in Wonderland.
Of course it’s true the Jewish part of history in today’s Israel dates back much much longer than the Roman/Turkish/British/Arab part. However, to be fair, it’s also a fact that for 2000 years the Jews weren’t there. Imagine, if every people of the world that was gone for 2000 years reclaimed the land on grounds of having been there BEFORE the present residents, well, we’d be having war all over the world, and this continuously. Because nearly everybody has been somewhere else BEFORE… So we must be fair enough to admit Israel was de facto created by UN Partition Plan, and this because after what had happened in the Holocaust – with 1/3 of Europe’s Jews systematically having been liquidated!!! – there existed the EVIDENT NEED FOR HUMANITARIAN REASONS for this nation to regroup in a safe homeland of its own. And, confronted with several alternatives, the Jews decided for their fathers land… It would be just impossible if the same world organization which once made this possible now would, in stages, first agree to inflatable-borders-Palestine and then to total-prePartitionPlan-Palestine… Israel has committed no crime justifying such a contradictory measure. It has only won its wars when attacked, and kept control over the acquisitions for the day of DEFINITIVE peace negotiations. However, NOBODY ON EARTH can expect from whomsoever to be ready for SUICIDE for this… So what’s the worth of Alice-in-Wonderland-recognition by UN if this is only supposed to once and for all eliminate Israel — CONTRARY to the same body’s own conclusions. — No, the only reason why this thing is being staged is to rally the whole world in an Israel-attrition-war. But it is written what this will bring: He Himself will show who He is by letting Israel win the war. So Pals should be SMART and once and for all settle down for peace in coexistence and for a happy life in normalcy. Instead of the, by their corrupt leaders inhuman goal of till-Doomsday-war!

> for 2000 years the Jews weren’t there
Erm, sorry?
Since Moses received the Decalogue, there has not been a single day when Jews *haven’t* been here. The Fakestinian claim is based on saying ‘we have been here for thousands of years’. The historical evidence demonstrates conclusively that this is not the case, but even if it did not, we can just say, ‘well so have we. And guess what – we had a state’.
Historically, logically, legally, morally and etymologically, the Jewish claim to the land of Israel trumps any and all others.

Lets put this one to “Bed”
First those that were there before the Israelites- no longer in name exist today- so those you can discount. The Hebrew peoples have carried on since their “Birth”.
Now for ” on grounds of having been there BEFORE”- lets just say for the sake of argument I agree with you-
So – Israel is there because first, The British government who ruled and occupied the land from the Turks decreed it ia Balfour- and then The UN by a 2/3 majority endorsed it-
Unfortunately the borders became very liquid- and on that point you might have an argument-
Of which I will argue that the borders are between Israel and her Arab neighbours- Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. .All with the exception of Egypt are countries no older than 100 years. Conceived by Britain and France.

Dear Steve Mann, 5 Sept 2011
You say:
“Of course it’s true the Jewish part of history in today’s Israel dates back much much longer than the Roman/Turkish/British/Arab part.”
1) I agree. With your permission, Sir, one could ask “what are your evidences?” and you easily could bring the Internal Jewish History, together with the External Jewish History (written by Egyptians, Assyrians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Turkish, British, …) together with Archeological findings as a full unshakable body of evidence that Israel has continuously and lawfully been the homeland of the Jewish nation, and nobody’s else.
2) But you add and say “…However, to be fair, it’s also a fact that for 2000 years the Jews weren’t there…”. With the same token, here also one can ask you: “what are your evidences?”. The evidences, dear Sir prove the the contrary/ It is FACT of life that during past 2000 years:
a. Year after Year, Jewish communities have been living in their homeland Israel, without any discontinuity.
b. For early first 4 Centuries (until about 1600 years ago, the kingdom of Yehuda (under the siege of Roman Church) existed and had Internal Autonomy)
c. Most of the time, the Jews of Israel, constituted the MAJORITY of the POPULATION
d. No other nation OWNED this land except for the Jewish Nation.
e. Almost ALL governments who have ruled over Israel, have been FOREGNOR INVADORS and used ISRAEL as forcefully occupied battlefield or pathway. Bezants were slightly different but soon died away.
f. The hope and INTERNATIONAL (and some times military) struggle of the Jewish nation continued, until recently it brought the fruit of Political Independence
g. On the other side, other communities have come and gone (Romans, Bezants, Persians, Omawies, Ottomans, Britain, Arabs,…) leaving the land of Israel to JEWS her LAWFULL OWNERS
3) You Sir have added: “… Imagine, if every people of the world that was gone for 2000 years reclaimed the land on grounds of having been there BEFORE…”
Well. It is a tricky one. Can I ask you what is the time period that the “gone” should be let back to their home land?
You know, that it may happen in (near) future (to Christian Europe), that some unreasonable forces, would chaise out the residents of a land (see Biafra. Or almost what was going to happen in SUDAN?)
Then, provided the refugees and their decedent survived, would they simply loose their ownership over their homeland, after say, 10 years? 100 years? 1,000 years? Ever?
Does duration of time Justify the “ownership” of the OFFENDERS?
Since others have not survive, should we Punish the Jews who have survived, by taking away their homeland?

This part J.M. is very simple to answer-
Tell it to Hamas, Hezbollah and the 57 Muslim countries that sit on the side waiting for Israels demise.
Not Israel- They need the peace it would release a fortune of the GDP having to be spent on defence.

Show this video to as many Jews as non-Jews to spread the word about the facts according to law and historical evidence. Slam down the nay sayers as soon as you read any negative press and inform the public. The message in the video is timely. Danny Ayalon is clear, correct, concise, complete, considered and convincing. Jews must make no apologies and must speak with conviction, so that the Palestinian liars wither Perez, Belin and their ilk have prevaricated over the truth as though it was undiplomatic and have brought only terror and confusion. Two key things have to be pushed to the front . as Regina said: 1/ Israel’s tiny geography and 2/ No matter how the truth is being obfuscated, based on both history and the laws that evolved from that history, Israel’s territory is inviolate. Obama is trying to force a Fakestinian state on Israel but he could only succeed if he sows confusion and sinks the “law”. The international law of both the 1535 treaty of Malta and the 1920 conference of San Remo and the resultant Treaty of Severs state clearly all of Palestine (including Jordan, Golan, and southern Lebanon to the Litani gorge) is Jewish land and Jerusalem is a Jewish city. In addition there is Congressional law 622 called the Fish Amendment that is still on the books and has never been repealed. We must use the law and hammer them with the accusations that they are the law breakers and that their schemes are not about peace but is with criminal intent

The “MEDIA” from all over the world must know about all the humanitarian things that Israel has done for this world i.e. Israel’s saving of the Ethiopian people when they were being massacred years ago; what Israel did to save the people of Darfur, the help in giving food, electricity, hospital aid and so much more to the Gazans; the help to Lebanon with the owls so that their agriculture would thrive there; the great many contributions in all branches of education; the saving of lives the contribution to the world of medicine, law, humanitarian ventures etc.i.e when they went to rescue victims in Haiti and other countries as well; the fact that Arabs have lived side by side in peace in Israel and are allowed to practice their religion; the fact that there are Arabs in Israeli government and then ask…Is this so in the other Islamic or other countries or not? Does Israel state that Islam should be annihilated or that what they teach their children is to kill others? Does it proclaim conquest of the world and deprive its women and children of rights? Which countries in this world have offered their hand in creating PEACE between peoples in that region? And, how big is Israel?… the size of Rhode Island! It isn’t even called a country, only a “state” and what do their schools teach about Islamic and other peoples? Is it the same as what is being taught in the Palestinian, Islamic areas and other countries?
being that the GOLDSTONE REPORT WAS WRONG and he ADMITTED FLAWS-this should have a huge impact on good peoples of the world. As for Al Jazeera; IF they advocated PEACE one of two things could happen: PEACE could very well come about OR this station could be shut down depending on which direction they went in? Obama has never been a true friend to Israel and is blind or knowingly condemns it for being the only democracy in that region for whatever his “reasons” and his actions and words have proved this over and over. More truthful media has to come on board in lime-lighting the good that Israel has done for the world and for the USA as well. There are many good Muslims, Christians, and Jews that really do need to speak out a whole lot more in behalf of Israel. No one should have to fear annihilation! Propaganda, lies and those who preach, speak, write or adhere to hatred need to be exposed and “dismantled” if there is to at least TOLERANCE and PEACE. Papers and News Programs such as the Guardian, NY and LA Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, SF Mercury, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, ABC and more should also contribute news articles that would show the good qualities of Israel to further the advent of integrity and amity between Israel and the Middle Eastern countries as it would humanitarianism, not ferocity. If peoples are at peace and mutually respect their neighbours; economies can thrive and get on their feet economically and in other ways thus there would be no reason for bloodshed, only harmony, and that would be good for the world.
My personal opinion on Jerusalem being Israel’s Capitol is that Obama has no right, and should have no say-so in this matter. He ought to promote PEACE and SAFETY of which he has failed to yet do for Israel and even for America. The MEDIA NEEDS TO CORRECT IT’S MISSTATEMENTS AS WELL and BECOME FAR MORE FAIR AND BALANCED and especially PEACE-ORIENTED. CHANGES NEED TO BE MADE – that’s for SURE – but IN A NEW AND DIFFERENT DIRECTION (not the direction we’ve headed towards!!!!!)

I feel that the best thing we can do right now is promote Israel in issues that are not conflict-related. This would show people how far the media is from the truth in its portrayal of Israel as another Iran or North Korea, and taking the negative connotation out of the word “Israel” is essential if we want people to accept the fact that you’re unlikely to find a more ethical country than Israel.

What can be done, by Internal and external Leadership and by Individuals?
1. Internal Israeli Government and Philosophical Leadership:
- buy TV primetime time slots, and send their best PR specialists to explain Jewish roots, culture, advancement, policy, philosophy and humanistic services of Jews from all over the world
- initiate TV and Radio stations in Israel with the above mentioned goals
- initiate lawful actions against Anti-Semites both internal and externally
- initiate international tribune about Human equality, justice, historical facts and processes
- change by law, the AGE of State of Israel’ fro 67 years, to 3,400 years, starting from the date of Alia of Israeli People to Israel under kingdom of Jehoshua
- initiate programs showing and proving the continuity of the bonds between the Jewish People and the land of Israel
- Initiate change of the fashion of late marriage, child control, abortion, and small families according to birth rate needed in this part of the world to sustain Jewish Majority,
- Make sure that Israel remains a Jewish State, and NOT a State whose Majority is decedents of (past) Jews. Israel is the homeland of the Jewish Nation and Judaism , not the state of her residents. No future shift of majority should be allowed to change or nullify this fact of the matter.
2. External Israeli Government and Philosophical Leadership
– initiate broad-band dialogue with Diaspora Jewish communities, to convince their members that the ongoing assimilation, is a strategic threat to the future of not only Israel, but to future of the Jewish nation, as a whole. Zionism has never been a STRATEGY in herself, but only a TACTIC and TOOL in the JEWISH STRATEGY to ensure the eternal existence of JEWISH NATION, her INDEPENDECE in her HOMLAND, and JUDAISM
- initiate educational program to ensure that any Jew, anywhere, who is curious about Judaism and her contribution to Humanity, can easily and affordably get it. Judaism is vital for well-being of Mankind, essential for the existence of the Jewish Nation. And, Jewish education is vital for the development of Judaism.
- initiate a world-wide campaign, to tear apart the lies, incorrect assumptions, and false pre-judgments, and fight, legally, against neo-fascism which has again become fashionable in the majority of international organizations, & news and mass-media
- …

It’s going to be extremely difficult to effect change. Minds seem set on these matters because people like certainty and a simple story. To unravel a story and present a new one that fits a listener’s emotional need for a consistent vision of the world and his place in it requires great insight and understanding. The truth is, you have to get to know those whose opinions you want to influence. You have to find a way to identify with them. That’s the only way to engineer a change.
So I agree with those above who say engage people in conversation. Be reasonable and polite. Try hard to understand the personal emotional necessity behind the words. It is more convincing to listen than it is to speak and since it’s the necessary first step, you have to do it anyway. Sometimes holding the tongue is the best argument. If something maddening has been said, something crude or hateful, do not react. It’s much better to leave the conversation with your communicant confused by their own crudeness. If you can leave them wondering if they could be wrong, you’ve accomplished a great victory for you and them too. That you didn’t respond hate for hate will be impressive in itself. Live to fight another day, choose your battles and argue wisely without rancor or bitterness.
It ain’t easy.

5 Sept 2011 Dear Abu nudnick
You say: ” Minds seem set on these matters because people like certainty and a simple story … You have to find a way to identify with them. That’s the only way to engineer a change ”
If I may, a few comments:
i) What kind of MINDS like simle stories? The SIMPLE and HONEST MINDS. IF minds are simple, then you are right. But what with those “NON-SIMPLE minds that want to Crop on SLAVERY? To wage WAR (JIHAD)? To STEAL others land (EUROPE e.g.) ownership, children, religion, identity? Those who want to GET POWER to RULE over the WORLD, no matter how many millions of people killed?” Is there any circumstances that “… You have to find a way to identify with them…”? When narrow and selfish “ideologies” of INTERESTs talk how one can identify with them? More probably, SIMPLE minds will JOIN IN!!
ii) IF minds are simple, then you are right by saying:” Be reasonable and polite. Try hard to understand the personal emotional necessity behind the words.” But, what can one do in the face of UNREASONABLE killers that first shoot you, then come forward to make sure that the shot one is dead? “Be POLITE”, did not save millions of Russians, Jews, Christians, Gypsies, Scholars, Priests, …., from fatal torture and death chambers, Why? If you are NOT READY to defend yourself, the NON-SIMPLE mind grows STRONGER and FASTER, until it is too late, and you will not be able to save yourself, anymore! In face of UNREASONABLE minds, the worst strategy id POLITICALL-CORRECTNESS
iii) I tend to agree with your final statement: “… That you didn’t respond hate for hate will be impressive in itself. You are right. “No hate for HATE”
iv) You have concluded: “Live to fight another day”.. Based on the very existence and mobility of some UNREASONABLE selfish dictators (see Bin Laden, Sadat, Kdafi, Asad, Ahmady Nejad, and the like), with your permission Sir, I would rephrase: “Defend yourself now when still you can, so that you can live one more day”
v) Our first line of DEFENCE should be TEAR APPART with no fear, the International lies, the ambiguities, the self-righteousness, the modern ”fashion”-ism, and HYPOCCHRACY
vi) Find and neutralize LIERS now, before they mobilize the simple minds to WAR against you
