Not all media errors are made with malicious intent. Some are simply typos or sheer carelessness in the rush to get content up on the web.
Nonetheless, these seemingly innocent errors also have to be caught and acted upon. Such was the case with this headline in The Independent in its initial report on a terrorist attack at Beersheba’s central bus station:
Immediately upon being notified (Beersheba is not in Jerusalem, it is some 100 km away), The Independent corrected the geographical error in the headline.
It is, however, highly unfortunate that the headline still contains such a great deal of moral ambiguity, failing to mention who carried out the attack, instead referring to “Israel violence.”
