Biography
Amotz Asa-El is the President of BusinessWeek Israel, a Fellow at the Shalem Center, and a Middle East commentator for The Wall Street Journal/MarketWatch. The winner of several prizes for his writing on Diaspora affairs and author of The Diaspora and the Lost Tribes of Israel, Mr. Asa-El is also a board member of the Encyclopedia of the Jewish Diaspora alongside Nathan Sharansky, Sir Martin Gilbert, and Brandeis University President Jehuda Reinharz.
A former Israeli delegate to the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Asa-El is a board member of the leading Hebrew opinion journal Eretz Aheret. He holds advanced degrees in journalism from Columbia University in New York and in history from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
His column, “Middle Israel,” leads The Jerusalem Post’s opinion section every weekend and discusses Israeli, Jewish, and international issues from the viewpoint of a native Israeli who has traveled the world extensively. Mr. Asa-El has been quoted among others by The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Republic, and Le Figaro. He lives in Jerusalem with his wife and their three children.
